URGENT APPEAL! Please help us to prevent a 'secondary disaster' Rescue efforts continue in Turkey and Syria, though hopes of finding survivors in the wreckage of Monday's huge earthquake are dwindling. The death toll has passed 12,000, according to reports from the region. Many more survivors are in urgent need of medical treatment, while hundreds of thousands of people have lost their homes and are struggling in sub-zero night-time temperatures. The World Health Organisation has warned that "We are in real danger of seeing a secondary disaster, which may cause harm to more people than the initial disaster if we don't move with the same pace and intensity as we are doing on the search and rescue." WHO incident response manager Robert Holden said survivors are "out in the open, in worsening and horrific conditions", with disrupted access to water, fuel, electricity and communications. Volunteers in Turkey are working directly with Go Dharmic to get supplies to the areas of greatest need as quickly as possible. They tell us that generators are among the most urgently needed equipment as medical workers are struggling to treat the injured amid disrupted power supplies. Time is running out for many thousands of injured and displaced survivors, so please donate whatever you can, as soon as you can, to our Turkey & Syria Earthquake Appeal. Seva - the timeless Indian philosophy of serving others without expectation of personal reward - is at the heart of everything we do at Go Dharmic. Help us to serve those in critical need amid this heartbreaking humanitarian disaster.
